Thinking about redecorating your bathroom? Don’t know exactly where to start? Well, if you are about to travel down that road the first thing you need to think about is using appropriate materials that will work in a humid area. You’re probably thinking, yeah I know that, but you’ll be surprised just how many people overlook the simple things in route to their perfect bathroom. They’ll totally skip over simple things like curtains and not account that they’ll need to be somewhat waterproof to go into the bathroom. For that simple reason alone, most decorators these days are steering clear of using curtains all together and opting for blinds for bathroom windows. Here’s a few problems to keep in mind while decorating your bathroom.

Using curtains in the bathroom pose both mold and mildew problems. Most curtains are made from an untreated fabric, and when these fabrics get wet as they will undoubtedly do in the bathroom whether it’s from splashing or sheer humidity, they will eventually mildew. A better alternative would be to use some kind of aluminum venetian blind. These blinds are not only waterproof, but they make for an easy and decorative way to finish a bathroom window as they come in a variety of colors and sizes.

There are a ton of options when you got to selecting blinds and while it is true, wooden blinds are much prettier than aluminum blinds, they come with their own range of problems. First, they are much more expensive than aluminum blinds so the initial investment can be a bit of a shocker, but they are not really suited to go in a wet environment. Wood has a natural tendency to buckle and warp when it gets wet. As this is true in floors, it’s also true in a bathroom blind. Why would you want to spend good money on something that will not last as long as you would expect them too? Now, there are some quality wood blinds that have been waterproofed, but you’ll pay even more for those.

If your bathroom window actually sits in the shower area, you’ve got even more to worry about. Your best bet is to go with a quality vinyl material. There are some very decorative vinyl blinds on the market that come in a variety of patterns and colors. This makes it really easy to color coordinate them with not only the towels but the shower curtain as well. When you color match, it tends to give a richer, more consistent look to your overall bathroom design.

You have to be smart when you go to redecorate your bathroom. Although you are limited in a way based on whether or not a material would be a good fit in a humid environment, it certainly doesn’t mean that you would have to be bland and lacking style. There are many alternatives that will not only make your bathroom look great but something that you’ll be satisfied with in the end.
