Parents might not think house cleaning is an important life skill and allow their kids to get away with it – oh, they are studying, and they have such and such sport practice.  The truth is, even kids need to learn to budget their time properly as things will get even more hectic and crazy when they have jobs and a family themselves.

Teaching kids to clean up after themselves also takes the burden off the parents to clean the house.  In fact, if the house cleaning work is shared, it actually promotes family and bonding time.  House cleaning might even be considered fun to do it as a group.

If you don’t teach your kids to clean up after themselves, they will most likely repeat the same habits they learned from you.  This isn’t the ideal future scenario because who wants to have friends, roommates, girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses turn out to be slobs?  It would seriously diminish your children’s social potential if they have bad cleaning habits.

So do yourself and your kids a favour by having good housekeeping skills.  Even if you hire outside help for the heavy cleaning, you should still do the light housework as a family.  Your kids and their prospective friends and family will thank you for it later.
