If you are familiar with the honeycomb blind, then you will know what a great insulator it is for areas that suffer from extreme temperature. It’s unique cellular structure allows air to be trapped inside it, creating a barrier between your window and the outside. What you may not know is that these blinds are created by joining two pleated blinds together. A pleated blind, on its own, has a ridged surface, or pleats, that travel down the length of the blind. These pleats are usually about 20mm apart from each other.

While a normal pleated blind is not as good an insulator as a honeycomb structure, it is still a highly regarded style, and very popular for a few reasons. Firstly, the honeycomb blind has an issue with bugs getting caught in the cells, making it very difficult to clean. Because pleated blinds do not have these closed pockets, they remain bug free. This is particularly important for rural areas that see a lot of insects in summer.

Another benefit of the pleated blind is the fact that when folded up, it all but disappears from view. The pleats fold into each other, and all you are left with is a thin strip at the top or bottom of your window. I say top or bottom, because many styles of pleated blinds have a unique feature, where they can be either rolled up, or rolled down, all the way or half way, allowing you to decide which part of the window you want covered, and which you don’t.

By far the most popular use for pleated blinds is in conservatories. Conservatories are getting more and more popular amongst home owners, and although they are an expensive outlay, they can be a great addition to any home, giving you extra space and somewhere unique to work, play or relax. Pleated blinds lend themselves well to conservatories, as they are light weight and are very versatile. It is quite simple to get a pleated blind that will fit almost any shaped window, and conservatories are well known for having odd shaped and sized windows in them.

Pleated blinds are also popular in the home. They can be used to great effect in areas that sport a modern decor, and look fantastic when coupled with some white curtains over the top, allowing you to further control the amount of light that comes into our room. If you want complete blocking of sunlight, you can also get blackout pleated blinds that will stop any light from coming in. If you are going to purchase blackout blinds, then you will want to make sure that they come equipped with tracks to run down, to stop light from seeping in through the cracks in the side.
